Healthy Fall Apple Pie Smoothie

Have your dessert for breakfast! This Apple Pie Smoothie recipe can be enjoyed every day this fall. Tastes just like an apple pie, but without the guilt!

This recipe is dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan. I promise you’ll swear it tastes just like freshly made apple pie, but in a smoothie form.

For the best results, use homemade applesauce and a generous spoonful of apple pie spice.

Choose the milk that works for you. I use coconut milk because we have nut allergies in the house, but almond milk also makes a wonderful base.

If you choose to use raw cashews, they will add extra body and help to mimic the taste of apple pie crust.

Dates, maple syrup or honey add just enough sweetness to your apple pie smoothie.

Rather than using ice to make this smoothie, I prefer to use applesauce that I’ve frozen in an ice cube tray instead. I find that it doesn’t water down the smoothie as much as ice does. But if you like using ice in your smoothies, go ahead.

Apple Pie Smoothie

1 cup unsweetened homemade applesauce
½ tsp organic vanilla extract
½ tsp cinnamon
½ – 1 tsp apple pie spice
¼ cup raw nut or seed butter OR 1/2 cup raw, unsalted cashews, soaked in water for 1 hour
1 cup coconut milk, almond milk, hemp milk or raw dairy milk (if tolerated)

1 tbsp organic maple syrup (or raw organic honey)
OR if you prefer, use 2 chopped, pitted dates, soaked in water for 1/2 hour
Ice (optional)

Place all ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth, 30 to 60 seconds.

If you use dates, a high speed blender, like a Vitamix or Blendtec is preferred.
